I love Doctor Who, Castle, White Collar, StarTrek, and many other things. I also love beautiful people like Stana Katic and Emma Stone. I am a nerd, and proud of it.

“Why did you lie to me?”
“When one’s in love with an ageless god, who insists on the face of a 12 year old, one does one’s best to hide the damage.”
“That must hurt.”
“Yes. The wrist is pretty bad too.
Stop it! Stop that! Stop it!”
“Better?”
“Well let’s see, shall we? That was a stupid waste of regeneration energy! Nothing is gained by you being a sentimental idiot. You embarrass me!”

“Never let him see the damage. And never, ever let him see you age. He hates endings.”

Oh River.

The Doctor isn’t aging. And she is. Because she gave up her regenerations to him. THe process is going much slower than a it would in a human perhaps, but I think she can feel that she is aging. It was her choice, and she knows it, but it means that one day she will finally get old (unless she…you know…sacrifices herself to save the Doctor before that happens)

I can’t help but think that River is preoccupied with getting older while he remains ageless. That she is worried he will one day leave her behind when he sees her changing and aging. She is worried that he will notice, that he will see all the damage that time and her life have done to her (inside and out) and that he will no longer see her as ‘his bad girl’ as the ‘woman who killed the doctor’ as this force of nature who can stand toe to toe with him and do just about anything.

She is afraid that he will see her ending coming and that when he does, he will bolt.

So her reaction when he tries to help her is based on him seeing that damage, on him seeing her hurt but also him having seen into that crack in her armour she exposed (Yes. the wrist is pretty bad too.)  And so rather than thanking him for helping her she is angry with herself for needing his help, angry that he ‘wasted’ regeneration energy on her. So she lashes out (nothing is gained from you being a sentimental idiot, you embarrass me!)

No matter what he does she will keep aging, so him using his regeneration energy on her to heal her feels so futile to her, he can’t change the fact that she will die and he won’t, he can’t give her back her regenerations. And that hurts more than her wrist every could.
